The Importance of Tai Chi Precision Explained
This is my second in-person training session with @damianneve in North Carolina. We have been working on alignment precision and why it's so important for Tai Chi internal structure and mechanics. Even the smallest deviations in alignment can cause your entire system to break down. Damian shows how bone alignment is key to absorbing and redirecting force effectively. In our lesson he shows how half an inch makes all the difference. I used to believe it's not possible to learn this level of precision from online training but my online training experience with Damian has made me realize as along as you have the right training system and right teacher, a lot can be transmitted via online training.

Very good stuff here. And ggreat atitude from yours , having lessons to enhance your Tai Chi Level. These are greta tips to evolve, even if I desagree wuth tose methods as they are not consistent with Tai Chi theory.

I'm not sure why you state your 'style' is not part of the Yang style. Fu Zhongwen, who you state your form is derived from, was a highly respected disciple of Yang Chengfu and taught Yang style Long form Tai Chi.

That last one "on to the hill", into Pu bu... For me it was so mindblowing and exciting back then when I first saw the chineses Tai Chi practitioner on youtube doing that like nothing!! 😂😅 Specially on videos of the Zhao Bao style... It took me some time to do that actually! ...Id like to ask if you have any video about Zuo pan bu, about what can you practice for feeling more confortable on that position? or maybe about the standing, which can be very tricky! This video was great Thank you so much Sifu Shirley!! 🙏

Funny thing is I have an engineer brain. Always analyzing, theorizing, even looking at load bearing, tensile strength, even shearing strength. I've been analyzing things like green dragon shoots pearls on where the impact of the palm is, and recalling what little I retain from taekwando on the alignment of the fore and middle finger -- the latter I use a lot when I drive -- on how it lines up with the forearm. And any engineer knows materials become stronger under compression. And making use of tension during playing the lute when I learned how it can dislocate an elbow. You retreat a 6 your opponent's arm under tension, weakening the elbow. Engineer brain.

Thankyou for this, I can't fully express how useful this was! Although I have to admit I couldn't maintain relaxed arm position for the full duration this first time - (a long term shoulder injury was very prominent in my awareness..) - now, since following you in this video, whenever I start the 'commencing form', my arms literally float upwards on their own, which startled me at first but is now a comforting reminder that correct concentration and relaxation has incalculable benefits and this feeling is beginning to permeate into all my tai chi practices. It is addictive, and happens whenever I concentrate on the movement having the lowest friction and interference from myself. I am forever grateful.

Shirley, the fact that someone as experienced in the postures as you are can bring yourself back to real tution shows the kind of strength sorely lacking in much of the modern day training. I'm sure you'll make some of the most meaningful stides foward during this time; keep that cup empty! Great work D ...

This is it. In order to show how effective Tai Chi can be, we need to make sure we're doing an effective version of Tai Chi. This is the type of work that has real value for our community. Perhaps then, less people will wonder if Tai Chi is effective and more will wonder how Tai Chi can be effective.

My dude, they're doing it slow because doing it slow helps with the learning process. NOBODY is under the illusion that standing still in a fight or LEARNING IN A FIGHT is valid as a way to fight. You learn, and then you fight....so what's you're point? They're learning here not fighting so why say they can't do this in a fight? Learning to fight and fighting are different...

He's a good teacher isn't he? He's a trained fighter in another "harder" striking art I'm sure of it. The combat applications of Tai Chi are definitely hinted at here. And I can hear "New York City" in his accent. Queens? Bronx Maybe? This was a great video.

i have a question i know the elements sometimes have creatures associated with them like with the 4 cardinal elements in western takes on the elements, with Salamanders being fire, Gnomes being earth, Sylphs being wind & Undines being water So i was wondering, do the 5 Chinese elements have a similar thing with them? like a specific creature that symbolizes that very element?
